dash board lights

i just purchased a 2001 maxima and the headlights work but the dash lights dont come on any ideas?

Sounds like it could be a bad fuse. Use your owners manual to locate were the blown fuse is and replace with a new one.

Fuse is probably a good start. If you haven't, see if there is a dimmer switch and make sure it is on. I only say it b/c I've done it. Armor All'ed the interior of my '01 Frontier one day. Driving home from work one night and wondered why it was dark inside the truck. While buffing, I'd hit the knob by accident and spun it all the way down to off. Though for what it's worth, apparently all vehicles don't have that dimmer switch for the instrument panel lights (my mom's CR-V doesn't).
