why do i have to push my clutch all the way to the floor just for it to start?

That's a safety lock out switch so the vehicle won't lunge forward (or backwards) if it's accidentally started in gear. I saw a careless guy in my shop reach in and start a plow truck in gear (thinking it was in neutral) and yes, it went through the wall. Not a pretty sight. Glad nobody got killed.
