The 2003 Nissan Frontier is equipped with a double-filtration system. There are two cabin-air filters housed within the Frontier's cooling unit. These filters work together to ensure you are breathing high-quality air in your interior. Both filters should be replaced at 15,000 mile or 12-month intervals. Minimal tools and expertise are required to replace the filters. You can do it yourself and keep from making a trip to the Nissan dealer. Open the glove compartment. Look inside the compartment. There are two plastic pins on either side of the inside wall. Support the glove box door with one hand. Pull the pins out with a pair of pliers with the other hand. Pull the glove compartment toward you to remove it. Examine the reinforcement panel behind the glove compartment. There are seven Phillips-head screws and one plastic pin. Remove the screws and pull the pin out. Pull the reinforcement panel off. This gives you access to the cooling compartment. The cabin-air filter is in the bottom of the compartment. Pull off the clip on the bottom part of the compartment. Pull the primary filter out. With the primary filter out, the second filter drops down. Remove it as well. Insert one filter. Push it up into the cooling unit. Insert the next filter underneath it. Line up the plastic edge of the filter with the small hook on the bottom of the cooling unit. This allows the clip to secure the filters. Push the clip back into place to secure the filters. Position the reinforcement panel over the cooling unit. Replace the seven screws and push the pin back into place. Line up the glove compartment with the reinforcement panel. Re-insert the two pins to hold the compartment in place. Close the glove box door.
