2003 Nissan Altima Interior Electrical Accessories problems

Asked by SalZa Jul 30, 2014 at 08:03 PM about the 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima. A few days ago it suddenly had a few simultaneous
issues with the interior electrical accessories. I'll list them out:
1. A/C not cooling. The fan works fine but does not cool.
2. Windshield wipers stopped functioning.
3. The signal lights work fine outside the vehicle, but it won't blink or chime on the
interior dash.
4. The keyless entry fob will lock and unlock the vehicle but it no longer beeps.
5. The dashboard clock went out.
So far I've checked all the fuses in the three areas and another mechanic has as well.
No fuses are visibly blown. I took it to the Nissan Dealer and they told me the
computer was bad and it would need to be replaced. The cost: $2500+ 250 for the
diagnostic test!!!! Since they have been known to just wild guess these things when
they really dont have an answer, I wanted to check if anyone else had any
suggestions before I spend more than half of what my car is worth and it end up being
something else.
I also wanted to mention that all these issues started simultaneously on a day when
there was a severe rain/thunderstorm and the a/c thermostat inside my house shorted
as well as my wireless internet router.
If you guys have any suggestions I would be much appreciative! Thank you guys in
advance!

My first thought would have been to check all the fuses, but since you've already done that you should try your best to see if any wires need to be changed out. The same thing happened to my friends 2004 pathfinder during a flood. When he took it to a dealer they were dumbfound and suggested calling his insurance company and filing a claim of some-sort. In your case I think the solution just might be to replace the computer inside your car. Keep in mind you would not have to pay this much money if you ordered the part and did it yourself. Check the wires (especially the ones hooked up to the fuse box) to make sure there's no damage there as well.

oh and one more thing, this will sound stupid but did you try to disconnect the battery and reconnect it?

Check this out. For no reason at all 2005 Altima power locks and windows and power divers seat all sopped working at the same time. After months of hunting for a due or relay I gave up on it. Then suddenly after 5 to 8 days of the car being parked in the driveway with it raining every day. When I went to start it the battery was dead,. When I jump started it all the electrical issue were corrected. Thanks to the dead battery some kind of reset was triggered. I have no clue what. So I would suggest you unhook the battery and short the to terminals together this should clear the central computer then after it has set anywhere from 2 hours to 8 days hook it back up and start it up. Might work and it's free.
