03 Nissan Altima 2.5 4 cylinder head gasket cracked
Should I replace the engine in my 03 Altima
or should I just replace the head gasket. The
car only has 82000 miles on it what should I
you might be safer just replacing the entire engine. if the block is aluminum and was over heated, there is huge chance it will be warped and the head and block will never seal again.
I agree with above if ran hot (if so have checked for warp) even after resurfacing it is just a matter of time before the head gasket blows again. If anything buy a new head or go to a junk yard like a pull-a-part that will let someone you trust pull it for you as it needs to be pulled, loosing the bolts in a specific order to keep from doing damage to it. Then having it checked for warp first if it is not then a pressure test, then have head cleaned up and new seals installed, resurfaced, clean up the block surface without harming the block surface, (no power tools) No cutting grooves in it. Of course check every possible reason it could run hot, clean radiator (flushed), new thermostat & coolant temp sensor, confirm fans are working. New Hoses. Belts, ect new engine oil & filter. This is just a guide and there is more to it but you should get a repair manual.
And a new water pump.
