Truck won't engage into four wheel drive, when you turn switch the icon on dash flashes but won't engage into

Just curious where to start. i think
switch is ok because it illuminatess
on dash and flashes but won't engage

if automatic put in neutral hold the brake....if standard in neutral push clutch all the way in
