Car quit on highway and won't start

Asked by Ashley Aug 10, 2018 at 08:11 PM about the 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just got the car yesterday. It does have a kind of
loud sound, felt like it has to do with exhaust
because its not in the engine. So, we noticed a gas
fume smell and then it quit while driving down
highway. I coasted it into a driveway and it will not
start back. There is oil splatter on front of motor
looks like from the manifold.

My initial thought is head gasket issue. Did you see what the oil level is on the dipstick? Hopefully you have some warranty. The other thought is a oil main seal for the crankshaft. Perhaps that spattered oil around.
