My 1994 3000GT VR4 won't start and there is no power to the ECU.

Asked by Scottgoldenco Feb 17, 2015 at 11:03 PM about the 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I started it one day last summer, pulled out of the garage, turned it off and has not started
since.  I have had 3si check the ECU, replaced the MFI relay and will crank over fine. I
have checked / replaced all the fuses and relays near the driver side kick panel.  The
check engine light fluttered the last time I started the car. I have checked the voltage to
the ECU and it is zero.  Any thoughts?

there is a relay specific to the ECU. not sure where it is located in your model, but if they go bad you will experience the very problems that you describe. It is quite often mounted on or near the passenger side fender, or sometimes the upper portion of the firewall.

Thanks for your response. 3sx is telling me there is not a ECU relay on this model? Any idea where it might be located?

Double check all your fuses. Also double check the negative battery cable connection to the frame and motor. These cars do all kinds of weird stuff when negative connections are not perfect

Thanks, checked all the fuses again and cleaned all the negative battery cable connection. Also replaced the battery and still cranks great; however will not fire and no power to the ECU.

The ECU has to be protected somehow. There is either a relay problem, a problem in the wiring or a ground problem. I would suggest getting a wiring diagram and seeing where the power all goes.
