'08 Silverado won't move when put in reverse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '08 silverado 1500 (2WD).  a few days ago, when I was leaving for
work, I put my car into reverse, heard a loud sharp banging noise, and it
wouldn't move backwards.  I shifted into drive and moved forward.  Shifted
back into reverse and no movement.  Gassing did nothing..When I put it in
park, it again made a loud bang.  Tow truck driver helped me push it out of
garage.  We tried it again, and it worked.  I drove it in to the shop (about 5
miles).  On the way there, it made a loud noise one time pulling away from a
light, in drive, but it drove fine.  Last summer the shop re-filled my
transmission fluid and replaced the filter.  They did not find any problems with
the transmission.  I've been driving it for a couple of days now, without any
issues.  Some friends have suggested checking rear differential fluid level.
I'm sure the shop did not check it.  I just came here to ask if anybody had any
ideas before I start chasing down every possibility.
