Car hood open / engine damage in the rain?

Asked by Heather Jan 20, 2020 at 12:04 PM about the 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport-tech Wagon with Technology AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Where we live, we open up the hood of the car to deter rats.  Will damage
occur if it rains at night and the engine compartment gets wet?

No...you'll be ok. The modern Subies use individual coilpacks at the plugs so misfiring or poor starts from wet wires stopped years ago. I power-clean underhood all the time with no problems. Here it's about lifting hoods to change deflection angle from violent squirrels throwing acorns down to crack them. Seriously! Looks like hail damage.
