engine knocking

Asked by Spring Apr 04, 2016 at 08:15 PM about the 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have recently purchased an eclipse. When u start
the car up u hear a knocking. We have determined
that it is one of the valves knocking. When u raise
the rpms it gets louder and then fades away. Any
ideas what could be causing it. It has sat without
being started for about 2 years, we made sure that
all of the fluids were full before we moved it. Any
ideas

Spring...sorry but you said what may be wrong with it, two years sitting without starting it. Cars are not meant to be stored like that. Unless your gonna work on it taken it to few mechanics , don't tell em what u think it is and see if two agree and what the price to fix is. Hope all goes well!

Change oil and filter add some Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer to oil. My friends vehicle sounded like a sewing machine when he pressed on the gas l changed his oil and filter and added the Lucas and it been 3 months now no tapping. Tapping did not stop right away it took about 45 minutes setting at idle and the tapping gradually went away.
