Why idles weak and slow acceleration

What service can I do to get my 1997 ford explorer
Eddie Bauer edition to idle clean and strong?It's
rough and occasionally weak,feel like going to cut
out.also slower getty up with some faint ting
sounds when I hit the gas good.

Have you replaced your idle control valve? Or checked the fuel and air filters?

Has the same thing happen today in the last hour of a 4 hour drive. Felt like I had to punch it to go. I did at times see the RPM gage twitch. Yesterday I changed the oil and air filter, along with some needed tightening of undercarage. I'm going to look into the the vale like Merrie said, and go from their. I'll let you know how it goes.
