My car is getting power but it is not turning over

Asked by 97gstMits Dec 05, 2014 at 12:45 PM about the 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T Turbo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car is receiving plenty of power and the dash lights come on when the key is turned
over, but the motor is not doing anything, no clicks and no turning over. It has a new
alternator, good battery, new starter, new heads, and everything else appears to be fine.
Any help would be warmly welcomed,
Ed

Couple of things.... Have you tried taking a multimeter and putting the positive probe on the positive terminal of the starter solenoid, the negative probe on a ground and turning the key? It should read 12 volts which means the voltage is getting all the way across to the starter solenoid. The second thing is that even if the starting battery may read 12.75 volts at rest, it might be worn and not have the amperage to spin the starter. A battery load tester or some auto parts places will be able to check that. In the case of a battery that is weak, you can try to jump start it.

My car stated yesterday, sat for about 7 hours, the had very little power and would start. thought maybe I had left lights on or something. My friend jumped my car and it started. Drove it for about 30 minutes and then today there was no power what so ever. What is wrong?
