I just purchased a 1998 Eclipse with 2.0 non turbo. Engine does not smoke but drinks oil. Any cure without rebuilding engine.

Have you checked for oil leaks? Does it smoke right when you crank it or if idling / taking off from a dead stop? If so could just be valve guide seals.

No oil leaks. Does not smoke at first start. Does not smoke at idle. only smokes when hard acceleration. Then stops.
