oil pressure light

Asked by Andyhuff Feb 01, 2016 at 07:24 AM about the 1997 Ford Expedition 4 Dr Eddie Bauer SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I can crank up the expedtion and it idle with no problem for as long as you
want to.  Once you get out on the road you can go about 3 or 4 miles and
then the oil light will come on and start to shut the motor down.  I was
looking at changing the oil pressure sensor thinking that it may not be
reading right.  After it sits for a little bit you can crank it back up and the oi
;ight will be off and you can go a few miles again before it come on again.

I would change the oil pressure sending unit, yes, and do an oil change. When pulling out the OPSU make sure that hole is not blocked up with sludge.

it sounds like your engine is dying for other reasons and the oil light is just coming on as it starts shutting down- who knows? amazing that lumbering pile still runs-
