automatic transmission not shifting when in drive while moving forward

when driving, transmission will not shift threw gears as gaining speed, seems to
be continuing in 3rd or drive from start

We have checked fluid, it’s ok don’t have a expert in lucedale, ms. All they want to do is order one and put it in . Would like to see if it could be something Else.
