Where is the starter on a mitsubishi lancer 02

the starter motor is going to be on the bell-housing with a RED cable leading to the starter solenoid....increase the available amps to the starter by cleaning the battery cable that leads to the motor block...and the chassis ground too...assure the battery is younger than five at which time the batteries will stop accepting a charge~ get a NEW battery...be sure connections are free of corrosion...use a gardenhose to get them clean if necessary~

LEAD is not used for car batteries anymore...instead tin/antimony alloy is what is used...it will stop accepting a charge approximately ten percent per year...02 is a long time ago and am surprised that yours even still holds a charge...this is your problem...brother, it's a BAD battery~
