Starter won't crank after replacment

My 2002 Mitsubishi Lancers's starter went bad, after replacing the starter, my
car still won't crank. I have checked the battery, and made sure that I am
measuring 12 volts at the starter terminal. It seems like the pinon is not
locking in, but how do you fix that?

Sound like its just spinning? Automatic? May need shimmed but unlikely. Are bolts correct?
Yes, the car is automatic. Yes, they are 2 bolts and you can't misaligned them. I had the starter checked out at the retail store before I bought it.
Yes, i looked at the teeth of the flex plate and they looked fine. I still don't understand how I would be able to misaligned the teeth. The starter won't fit if it is placed upside down.

It will if its side ways. Still ur mommas nail polish put it on the piston turn it look see where the piston hits. Give you your answer.
I have changed a solenoid on my starter and it ran for 2 days and it won't crank again. I have tried replacing with new starter, but still same issue. I hear the noise, bur won't crank. The pinion moves and engages. I have also check the grounding and it is grounded properly. Any ideas?
Last time it was the ignition wire connector that was bad, so I replaced and my car was running, until today. My car is not starting. I tried jumping via connecting a wire to the starter ignition connector. Then, I changed the starter, but car is still not starting. I can hear the pinion engaging, but no crank. What else could it be?
