Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 cougar with a duratec 2.5 motor is bad. I have the chance to buy a brand new 2.5 complete factory motor with all injection and accessories on it . The new crate motor model is a 1G400AA the motor in the car is a 9G400AA what i am trying to find out how is this motor different besides the ecm, belt tensioner, and so on has anybody tried this swap out. The new crate motor is a 2001 I know the 99 and 2000 are the same but what makes the 01 and 02 different. They look very simular.

yes it can be used. No mods necessary, but it would be worthwhile to consider a 3.0 swap if you want more performance.

If you have a manual transmission you will have to grind down the transmission input shaft. Next decide if you want to install the stock 3.0, or use the 3.0 with 2.5 heads and intake manifold. The 3.0 with 2.5 heads makes an additional 30 HP. Otherwise, all the accessories will bolt right up (assuming the engine you get doesnt already have them) Finally, get a tune for it.
