I am looking at buying the new 2019 Subaru Ascent should I wait till the 2020 model or will that be foolish.

I am not in favor of being an early adopter but this is your choice.

Depends upon your timeframe indeed. If you're an early trader you'll lose $2-3k by buying a '19. Once held a decade the delta shrinks to $1k.

I do not advise buying a brand new model from any manufacturer. The 2.4 turbo engine is brand new from Subaru ... give it a year or two to see if they solved the oil consumption problems that have been plaguing their motors for years.

The relatively large compromise in fuel eco with the new blown 2.4t may indicate a return to tighter rings; different factory machine line also probably isn't using the same computer- assisted block boring jigs that someflew out out of calibration back then?

I don't see too many complaints about excessive oil use in turbo Subaru's.

No, it's going to be about durability. Will a new 2020 be better than a late 2019? Probably not. That said, if it's not significantly cheaper...and probably won't be until there MIGHT be leftovers in the fall, I'd get either a new 2019 NOW or a new 2020 in the fall if the intent is to keep over a decade. But if they're clones and you can save $2+k on a leftover it might be a fair deal too.
