I have a 2002 Mercury Cougar, 5spd, that the temp gauge started climbing on over a year ago. We have replaced the heater core, the water pump and belt, radiator, sensors, thermostat, and hoses. We ran a test kit on the head gasket, and it tested negative for a problem. It doesn't do it every time it's driven, and it has NEVER lost any fluid or spewed from anywhere. The fluid level has stayed consistent in the reservoir. SO frustrated and have put about 1500 in parts in this car in the past year, and still don't have a car to drive. I'm a single disabled mom, and on a very small fixed income, and I desperately need my car to be dependable to drive again. Any ideas?? PLEASE HELP!

The car only has 76000 miles on it, btw, and I desperately need to get it up and running again, so that I can go to the doctor and the store.  I've been having to depend on others and do without drs. visits because of this.

does it run like it needs a tune-up? I think Ive heard that a timing chain or timing belt could have that as a sign that its going to happen. I have a 99 cougar and Im the 2nd owner since 2004 and have stuck $8,000 into the money pit but cant afford to get rid of it. The rocker panels are totally shot and the brake lights have been out for 3 years. All kinds of repairs tried and failed with that repair. Any ideas on the brake lights guys? Pressure switch replaced lights are good new line was ran.. UGH!!!!!
