Start stopn button, loss of power steering

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I always press the button to disable the start stop button when I start my jeep.Randomly while driving the the battery light and the stop start icon come on on the dash, the dash also says the stop start is disabled, which it is since I shut if off every time I drive. At the next stop light or sign, the engine still running,I lose my power steering.I can then shut off the  jeep at ignition and restart to reset and regain my power steering.Has happened three times Is there a seperate battery for the ESS on this model?Could that be the cause since the battery light keeps coming on?Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Robo

I have 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk 4x4 and at 3500 miles I began to have this same problem. The difference is that I also get a message telling me to service the ESS. My vehicle has been in the shop since July 22nd... today is September 11th. The first attempt to fix the problem they replaced the alternator and returned it to me. I brought it back one hour later, as this did not fix the issue. That was on the 29th. Next, they returned it to me on August 6th. This time I didn't get five miles from the dealership and had to take it back again. I lost power steering while on the freeway...not fun! Since then, they have run a litany of checks, test and fixes. None of which have solved the problem. Two weeks ago they swapped out the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). This failed to correct the problem. Last week they replaced the PDM (Power Distribution Module). Again, didn't fix the issue. I have contacted Chrysler several time during this ordeal and they have yet to come thru for me. I suggested they simply trade mine for a working vehicle and fix mine on their time, but I was informed that they are not willing to do a buy-back on my car, because well, they didn't give me a reason. They flat out denied my request. No explanation. I am now in my 8th week dealing with this, so all I can do is wish you luck and hope that you are ready for the long haul. Kevin

Thank you for sharing your story I'm in the same situation I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk alite I purchased it about a year ago I was told by the dealership if there are any malfunctions they cannot fix that they would replace it with a brand new jeep so I would look into that if I were you my issue started today and I will be dealing with the dealership tomorrow.
