Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Jeep dealer tells me I have to use synthetic oil in a oil change for my
2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. I see on the internet this may not be true and
I can use conventional petroleum oil.  I therefore called another dealer and
was told that stick with what ever the dealer put in it.  I said they put nothing
in it as it was new.  They said ok it is  alright to use conventional petroleum
oil.  What do you think?

2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4 If it is under warranty I would use what they say and I would have my oil changes done with the Dealer.I had all my oil changes with the dealer and I have an extended warranty to 100,000 miles. At 91,000 I started losing oil and now after an oil consumption test the engine is being replaced and covered by warranty. Now call me crazy but I think if I went somewhere else for my oil changes and I used different oil than what they recommend this would have been a battle. Please take a wander through this forum and see the comments in regards to engines and pistons needing to be replaced before you decide to save a few bucks on the oil changes.

Yes, because it's engine gets very hot and uses direct injection, you should use a full synthetic oil.

The 2.4 engine needs synthetic oil, where the six cylinder engine can use regular oil. The 2.4 comes with synthetic in it.Using anything else will void the warranty

Watch your oil life. I have 115844 trouble free miles on my 2019 Cherokee 2.4 using this method.
