Used WRX STI and then mods or used STI RA?

Asked by Farang4ever Feb 03, 2019 at 10:22 AM about the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA AWD

Question type: Car Customization

Hi, I’m considering a gently used Wrx sti or used
RA.  If want to add some basic mods to STI, such
as exhaust/tune/perhaps intake.  Since RA already
has those modification, plus forged pistons, would
it make more sense to purchase a lightly used RA
to keep the warranty. Plus I thought it’s probably
safer to purchase RA since all those cars were
probably beat on from the break in period, and
since the engine is tougher in RA, it may have less
wear, being purchased used.  Any thoughts would
be appreciated.  Thanks

I see one on cargurus for $42k with 6k miles. Sounds like decent deal, since that’s the price of mods you’d be putting in anyway, minus the warranty

Ask for service records, meet the owner and see if they are a young punk or a responsible owner. I would not buy it if they already modded it. I would get a CarFax and talk to a Subaru dealer to see if the car has been in for repairs.
