1995 Mazda protege Hold light

Need some help on finding out why my hold light on my
95 protege is flashing and automatic transmission not
shifting from 1st 2nd and 3rd gears this happens atleast 3
to 4 times out of the week but every time I turn the car off
and let it chill for like 10 minutes the hold light turns off
and the car starts working perfectly fine
