Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Ford Mustang 3.8L V6, while driving it randomly just cuts off
without any notification. then some times the CHECK ENGINE light comes
on and when the code is read it says CAM Sensor, I have replaced the
CAM sensor and it still continued to do the same thing, so my next thought
was the fuel filter so I replaced it and still kept stalling while driving. I
dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump and another fuel filter
and it still continues to die.I also recently replaced the alternator and
battery thinking it may be getting to much juice to the car but still dying any
suggestion guys? I am really leary about driving it now

My 1996 GT will act like it's running out of gas after long, start and stop or high speed freeway runs on warm/ hot days and then dies like it's running out of gas or the fuel filter is clogged. Once it has cooled down, it will start right up and short trips around town are no problem. No mechanic can get it to replicate what it's doing to me on long drives. Anyone had this issue? Fuel pump issue?

My 1998 3.8l Mustang does excatly what you just described GuruT97H4. I've spent thousands over the last 5 years and have taking it to numerous mechanics. I'm afraid to take it on trips because I have no confidence in it getting me back. It runs like a brand new car when I first start it up and once I get it running again (after the issues when restarting it after a 30 min run) it runs perfect again. When the check engine light came on it read that it the fuel was too rich (or getting too much fuel) I would just get rid of the car if it was any other car but this was my mother's car. She only drove it a hand full of times before she died and it means more to me than "just a car" I'd be willing to pay just about anything to get it running properly. Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one with this issue.

Did anyone figure out why yet my 1998 is doing the same thing

I found out that it was the crankshaft position sensor. The two wires that went into the connector was brittle plastic and had came off and the wires was touching causing it to short out and kill the engine.

My 2003 mustang did the same thing on long trips. Stopped taking on long trips even after replacing fuel pump and then cut out while driving in town. Do not know what's wrong.

I never figured it out. It recently left me stranded and when I got it to a shop they told me everything pointed to the transponder. I've yet to replace it but I'm hopeful. I can't bring myself to sell it because it was my mothers car before she died. I hope I finally figure it out. Appreciate any and all help

My 1998 v6 has been stalling while driving whenever I'm coming to a stop or sitting still at operating temperatures and I don't know if it is throwing a code because the engine code is already up for 3 problems. One of them is the camshaft position sensor which I replaced and it threw that code 1 hour after being put back together. Also my computer is sending the wrong code to the sensor and its also telling my egr not to operate.

try the transmission lock up sensor if that doesnt fix the problem then the torque converter needs to be replace. see the way it works, when coming to a stop, the vehicle will dis engage the lock up. when the sensor or converter is bad, it wont release to let the vehicle idle at a dead stop. the solenoid is the cheaper way (if thats the problem) to start with 1st. this more than likely will fix the problem. by the way i build transmissions for a living.
