1997 Mazda 626. 4 cylinder . Stuck in park.   Got it up the gill by finally figuring out the
switch lock.      Any easy fix. Or testing can be done by me.   Before 100 hr for a

Can you hear a small motor working under the shifter when you press the brake pedal? There is a motor/switch that releases a lock lever underneath. I had a small plastic pin break on the arm that controls this lock. When you turn turn your shift lock with a key, you are manually releasing the lock. I drilled out the plastic where the pin was, and pressed in a metal pin. Fixed!
