The motors (OHV) will work with no problem. The problem you will have is if any repairs have to be done down the line. The 4.0 V6 was modified about four times during it's lifetime. The last mod I believe covered from 1997 to 1999 or 2000. Heads, valves, lifters, etc were all changed during the course of the mods and are not interchangeable. Make sure if any engine work has to be done, you inform the dealership or mechanic what year 4.0 OHV engine you have.

Forgot. Check if any replacement or modifications to the PCM will be needed. Start first with counting the pinouts on the PCM for both engines. If you have more on the 98 PCM you will have to take that along with the engine. Goes for any additional sensors the newer vehicle may have.
