A freeze plug only opens to the water jacket. Oil will not come from a leaky freeze plug, unless you have a sever crack in the block. If you have oil dripping from the middle of the engine block the two most likely culprits are a valve cover gasket or the oil pan gasket. Be sure to keep checking oil levels until you can fix the leak.
