locked. How do I get in?m What did I do to cause this?

You only have one fob? Is the other one in your house?

Yes I have a second key that we used to unlock the vehicle when my husband returned home with that second fob. Since he's been home, the original fob worked after I was in the vehicle, but subsequently the doors did not automatically unlock when I stood outside the car with fob in hand. Another issue: We are wondering if when my husband walks by the vehicle in the garage with the second fob in his pocket, the car locks. Then when I approach the car and my fob is inside, the doors remain locked. Do the two fobs confuse the issue?

I have a new CR-V 2018 model and my car is locking itself either with key or without key being in the car. The self locking function is not turned on the the problem is intermittent, however my honda dealership tells me the problem does not exist. If you find out what the problem is please post as the other week I had just taken the baby out of the car and went back to get my bag only to find the car had locked itself again.

I have the same issue and can not find the spear fob ANYWHERE! I walked away to bring some groceries in the house and the car auto locked. I had a 2016 Civic and it has never locked me out with the key inside. Now with the 2019 Civic I'm sitting here wondering what is going on.

This has happened to me twice. The dealership says it's impossible, but from this thread, we know more than they do about this issue.

It has happened to me three times now. Every time my wife was near by with the extra fob , fortunately...but I’m furious if it’s true that Honda denies the problem. I have now turned off the auto lock on walk away but it annoys me I’m no longer able to use this feature.

Happened to me twice as well...had two 3 year olds that i had to deal with for 3 hours. First time the spare fob unlocked the car. The second time my husband was gone with the fob and i was with two 3 year olds for 3 hours waiting for him to come home with the fob. The phone was in the car as well. Oh brother. After reading this i am very frustrated with honda...just took it to the dealership and will let you know what the result is...

This has also happened to me more than three times. If my keys are in the car with the car unlocked and my husband walks past with the Driver 2 fob to get to his car it locks my car. We went on to the settings for the Driver 2 fob and auto lock is turned off. So I have no clue why this is happening but it is so frustrating like everyone is saying!! I am now stuck at home with my three-year-old and we had to miss swim class. I do have autolock turned on for the Driver 1 fob but those are the ones I left in the car, so the car should not self lock with the keys in it!! Would love to hear if anyone gets a real response from honda!

Call roadside assistance. They have unlocked for me twice in my home garage. Also, the CRV locked me in while I was gathering my things from the passenger seat. I gotten into the habit of leaving the window down with my keys in the CRV in the garage. We have only one fob and I am terrible with misplacing keys. This is a mystery which needs some solving. You all are not alone.

Guru When roadside came out did they damage the vehicle as I locked keys in boot

No. They use an inflatable bladder which pushes the top of the door out enough to slip the unlock rod in. It sets the alarm off but turns off quick enough. (May have used fob to shut off can't remember. Best luck to you!

Happened to me yesterday but problem s with only one of my two key fobs, I suspect may need to change the battery on the 'bad' fob.

Happening to me as we speak! Kept thinking my husband was locking it in the garage. Now after reading all this, I realize it's a Honda problem. A coworker has to come and get me. I did change the battery and it's still happening.

I AM A HONDA TECHNICIAN. FROM WHAT I FOUND WITH A CAR THAT HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM, THE ANTI- KEY LOCK OUT CAN BE OVERRIDDEN. ONE KEY CANNOT LOCK ITSELF IN. IF YOU HAVE A SECOND FOB AND LOCK THE DOORS WITH THE FIRST FOB IN THE CAR THE SECOND FOB OVERRIDES THE FIRST KEY'S PRESENCE. ALSO IF YOU LOCK A FOB IN WITH THE PHYSICAL METAL KEY THE FOB PRESENCE WILL BE OVERRIDDEN. AND LASTLY IF THE FOB IS INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THE LOCK IS MANUALLY TURNED ON INSIDE THE CAR THE PRESENCE IS OVERRIDDEN ( FOR EXAMPLE YOU ARE IN YOUR CAR AND YOU LOCK THE DOORS TO KEEP SOMEONE OUT). ONE FOB CANNOT BE SHUT INTO THE CAR. CHILDREN OR PETS INSIDE THE CAR LOCK THE FOB INSIDE.

I am very frustrated because I’m constantly running across this issue. I’m also dealing with my remote starter not functioning (yes the setting is on! And it’s worked years prior all of the sudden it quit working. So what do I do? I walk to my car, manually start my car, lock it, I come outside when I’m actually ready to leave...I have my fob in hand and it would not unlock!!! I quickly rushed inside to get my other fob still nothing!) Ugh Honda needs to address all of these issues. I want to trade in my car in so badly.

Walked up to my 2017 CRV in my garage with keys clipped onto my purse (cellphone not in purse). Car unlocked itself as usual; I put purse in the car, shut the door, and the car locked itself. Thank goodness second fob was in the house; I used it to unlock it. Then I put my fob ON THE CENTER CONSOLE (again, no phone in car; second fob back in the house, 20+ feet away); shut car door - car locked! I had been telling myself I was just being paranoid about never shutting the door with my keys in the car; now I know it’s not me. Software glitch, Honda? (Oh, and fob battery is less than 2 months old, so we can also assume it’s safe to rule that out.)

I WARMUP MY CAR IN THE WINTER, STARTED CAR AND WALKED AWAY, CAME BACK AND COULD NOT GET INTO CAR, IT WAS LOCKED WHILE IT WAS RUNNING, WENT IN TO GET SECOND FOB, WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS, SERIOUSLY............. THEN I LOOKED FOR A PHYSICAL KEY WITH MY ORIGINAL PAPERWORK, NO ACTUAL KEY FOR THE DOOR, LUCKILY I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THE PHYSICAL KEY IS HIDDEN IN THE FOB, THERE IS A SMALL LOCK SWITCH TO UNLOCK AND SLIDE THE KEY OUT, THANK GOODNESS OPEN SESAME........

I used to have all 4 doors lock on their own - and I paid for them fix this 5 years ago and then they gave me a refund a few years ago. So they have known about this for years

This happened to me today, with my cat in the car. I was about to take her to the vet. I put her carrier in the car. Then I put my purse in the passenger well. My keys and phone were in the purse. I shut the door and went around to the driver side and the car locked! I had already locked my house. And it was 100 degrees out! My housemate has my spare key and wasn't home. I had to go to my neighbor and ask them to call my housemate and get him to race back. If he hadn't come back quickly I was going to break the window to get my cat out of the car. Thankfully she was OK. But this is dangerous.

I see no options but to call a tech. I know a locksmith that can help you save. Would highly recommend Sherlocks Locksmith for their fast service. There are lots of options but they are the ones that I tried. I like the experience and I hope to you as well.

My wife has been auto locked out of her 2016 Civic multiple times including in the cold and in public parking lots where it could have been a personal security issue. We've had to call road service over and over. We bought the car new, We began raising the issue with the dealer when the car was still under warranty. The Honda dealer has been no help. They've changed batteries in the fobs with no fix. This a a clear safety issue, as we've seen in our own experience and seen in other messages from people who had close calls with children and pets locked in. We are getting ready to put a lawyer on Honda.

I have a 2018 CRV and I am the original owner. I have been having the problem off and on as well. The car will lock with the key fob inside.

On my 2013 Accord, you cannot use one fob to lock the other fob in the car. You can do this on my 2020 CRV. This is dangerous.

Hello, I have a 2011 CRV and just started having this problem. My car locks all the time with our without keys in the car. My only option for now is to keep my keys in my pocket unless I am ready to drive away. I think this is a computer glitch issue with Honda. When I called my dealer they said they have never heard of this problem before. Frustrating to say the least!

We've had the same problem, and have run across what might be an answer. In the Owner's Guide (page 37 for our 2018 CRV) are instructions for "Customizing Door Lock Settings." These are different from the instructions for using the Information Display to change the settings. This seems to be an alternate control. 1. Set the parking brake with the shift lever in P. 2. Open the driver's side door. 3. Turn the ignition switch (or start/stop button) on. 4. Move the shift lever out of P with the brake depressed. 5. Press and hold the right side of the master door lock switch on the driver's side for more than 5 seconds. Release the switch after you hear one click. (If you don't hear a click, this auto door lock mode was already set to Off. But on ours, it was on) 6. Move the shift lever to P. 7. Turn the ignition switch to Accessory within 20 seconds. Why Honda has this alternate system on models with the Information Display is a mystery to me, but we are now evaluating it to see if it will make the car stop locking my angry wife out.

I have a brand new Honda CRV 2021 and it has happened to me twice now. The car auto locks with the key inside. I don't touch a button or anything. It is frustrating to see that the issue has been going on for years now. I had a Nissan prior to this and not only would the car not auto lock, you couldn't trigger the lock if the key was inside the car.

I have been having this problem with my Honda 2014 CRV for years. My door auto locks as soon as i shut the door. I have asked and asked the dealer to change it so it would give me a few minutes to get things out of my car for it auto locks. . He told me it could not be changed for Honda made it that way so cars would not be left unlocked by accident.

I got the sequence for locking the Honda CRV 2017. 1. Close your car. 2. Open the driver door with the hand (not the fob). It opens only driver door, although it has a setting to open all doors. 3. Drop your fob inside and close the door. 4. I locks it in about 15-30 seconds.

This happens because you have a faulty door switch that does not sense the the door was opened. When you unlock the car, you have 22 seconds to open a door or the honda will lock itself. This is a good thing. Imagine you park in a mall parking lot and lock your vehicle. As you leave and put your keys in your pocket, you accidentally hit the unlock on your key fob by mistake. If a door doesn't open within 22 seconds, Honda thoughtfully locks it back up again. I'm guessing when you opened the sliding door to put the keys in, the interior lights did not come on (but you probably didn't notice that because it was daytime) because you have a faulty door switch that doesn't tell the car that a door opened. These switches get easily damaged when you slam the door and your seat belt got caught in the door. The little plunger switch is spring loaded and can get bent and doesn't stick out all the way. The car doesn't realize a door was opened. A new switch is about $25.00 Canadian and is easy to replace.
