My 1998 Ford Explorer doors are jamming

Asked by migration_Anita1126 Feb 09, 2015 at 10:24 AM about the 1998 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT AWD SUV

Question type: General

My right front door has not worked in a long time and now all the doors seem to be jamming. Does the acutator need to be replaced in all the doors? I can lean over and unlock the back right door...sometimes the key less entry works in opening it and sometimes it doesn't. Now the back left is doing the same thing and noticing my driver side is doing it also....ughhhhhhh

What do you mean by jamming? Is what is happening is when you close the door normally it will not close all the way? You really have to slam it for it to close? If that is the problem check the striker attached to the pillar (it juts out about two inches) There should be a gray plastic sleeve surrounding the metal stud. If it is missing the striker needs to be replaced. In unscrews with an allen wrench. Forget the dealerships they do not stock them any longer. Forget auto parts stores, they only have the one for the tailgate. You will have to locate it on the net. Replace all of them. They can be had for about 20 bucks a piece.
