Flashing check engine light, rough idle, bad fuel mileage

Asked by Russ Jan 20, 2016 at 09:44 AM about the 2001 Mazda 626 ES V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 626 had about 104k miles on it when I
bought it, and about 106k now. It started
showing the check engine light a couple
months ago, and a friend said it was giving
the code for the EGR valve. It very recently
started flashing the check engine light. The
idle became very rough, and my fuel mileage
has been cut almost in half.

Do you feel amy loss in power when the engine is running? I have similar problems with 2000 626 except i have. 176 k and my light is only on not flashing but i have a damaged air intake hose and i litterally wraped a rag around it and covered it and the engine regain some of the loss power, its because the engine isnt getting enough air from the intake being dirty or damaged or the airflow sensor going bad
