DRIVE AT NIGHT BEFORE YOU BUY - Hyundai Sonata 2018 Limited, Headlight dark line and notches.

Asked by GuruZ34C3 Jan 18, 2018 at 08:29 PM about the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I just want to get the information to DRIVE the vehicle you plan to buy, AT
NIGHT!   The headlights on the 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited, cause a line
and notches across the windshield at night.   According to Hyundai Motor
America, it's the consumer's responsibility to drive the vehicle at night.  SO, if
you don't like the 'design' of a dark line and notches across your view at
night, think twice before buying.   No reasonable consumer can imagine the
view at night, that is supposedly by design!   BEWARE, DRIVE AT NIGHT!

How is this dangerous??? I see two small shadows at the very end of your light beam ground reflection. Is it not like huge blinds spots. I am not saying it does not suck but you are waaay over-exaggerating the issue

It cuts off your view! Open the picture. If a stop sign or worse yet a person is in the dark line across the windshield, you only see the bottom of the sign or the legs of the person. Very dangerous. It's been reported to the NHTSA many times. I found it reported back in 2010 and forward. If you search others on this site have reported the same issue. Hyundai Motor America representative, said it was my responsibility to drive the vehicle at night, to notice this supposed design. In my view it's a defect disguised as a design. Some dealerships have tried to fix it, but it's not fixable. So, just want to get the word out to consumers......If buying a new 2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited, DRIVE IT AT NIGHT, before you buy! I'm just one of many reporting it to the NHTSA!

Also you might want to go out to NHTSA website, there are complaints in 2017 for the exterior lighting on the Hyundai Sonata Limited. The dark shadow across the line of vision is explained in good detail by other consumers! A safety issue and not a 'design' any reasonable consumer could imagine in a new car. Nothing in Hyundai advertising reveals this 'design'. Since Hyundai Motor America refuses to address, this consumer wants to 'get the word out' to other consumers! Consumers need to be aware of this, to make an informed car buying decision.

You posted 5 different posts here for this so called issue. Learn to adjust your light first. Mine is fine

I am leasing a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The anti glare headlights feature is dangerous and ridiculous. Unfortunately I have to deal with it for 2 more years but I definitely want renew my lease. Very disappointed!

Have a 2017 Sonata low mileage was not a problem till last night. Could only see on the lower 30-40 % of windshield where ever road was dimly light which was most of the ride, even worse going downhill, black above that with curved border. Was white knuckled ride for 40 minutes. Dangerous driving condition! Used hi beam whenever no one was approaching.
