Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1998 Ford Escort keeps draining the brand new battery and dying. I replaced the
alternator, but that didn't fix it. Any ideas?

You have a big draw somewhere in the vehicle. Check to make sure your dome light, glove box light, trunk light or under hood light is not staying on all the time.

I checked. They're not on after I turn the car is off. I had the alarm system disconnected. That didn't help either.

There is still a major draw in it. Something is staying on. The only thing I know to do is install a battery disconnect on your battery until you get it fixed. My advice is to take it to a dealer where they have someone that is certified in electrical. You can buy the disconnect at advance or autozone and will have to raise the hood to turn it on and off but that is better than being jump started every day.

And make sure that everything is disconnected from the alarm system. I have seen wires/sensors under the dash still causing a draw even though the alarm was disconnected from the battery.

my car radio wont shut from the unit, could that draw juice from my battery.the radio was put in it,is from the factory.or found some wires cut the the trunk, they go to my trunk light.this problem just got started.but i really like it is coming my car radio
