Reset canister purge valve-1998 Ford Escort

Check engine light came on-w/ code to replace Canister Purge Valve.  Did that.  
A week later, Check engine light came on again, got a code for canister purge
valve.  Just had it replaced a week ago.  How can I reset it myself?  Other than
removing battery cable (bad hand; cannot grip wrench to get bolt off).

You need an OBD reader. You can get one online for about $20. It will tell you whats wrong with car and you can reset it also
