why do i not have a chip that is not in my in my key

back  of key has a place for achip but no chip in it

haha aww come on its only about 100 bucks for the key and program at our dealer.

Not a BMW (bob marley and the wailers) vehicle, which he'd leave open, for all the faith in humanity....alas mo money....can't tell you why? thicker steel? foriegn?

So do I have to buy a whole new key and I was quoted 250 to 300 for a new one when I thought I lost it a few days ago or can I just buy the chip ?
