Why did the battery light turn on, dashboard, radio and headlights dim out them car shut off in my 1998 ford escort. Also when I try to charge battery with cables our vechile does the same thing dies?

Our car will die a few minutes right
after we turn it on again. What parts
could it be and what will I need to do
to find out. Don't have much money
at all. Help!

It is highly likely that your alternator has an insufficient voltage output to charge the battery. Or it could be that your battery has just quit and will not hold a charge. You can have both of these items tested free at most auto parts stores. If your budget is tight, I would recommend to have both parts tested and replace only what is necessary to keep you running.
