How do I put my dads car under my name?

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

My dad is giving me his car for college, but I live in Florida and he lives in
Pennsylvania. How do I put it under my name if he doesn't have insurance on
it anymore?

He has to sign the title over to you and you have to register it in your name and provide proof of insurance. You will have to pay for insurance since he does not have any on it.

could you provide steps? like where do i go to do all the signing because I'll be in Florida for the holidays and we want to get it shipped here

All he has to do is sign the title and give it to you, if you want you could ask your dad to provide a bill of sale stating that he is giving you the car. Then you take the title along with proof of insurance for your state to the local DMV and pay whatever fees they charge and register it in your name. It is easy. Since it is a gift they may not charge you any sales tax.

If Florida requires vehicle inspection you will need to have it inspected. Check out the Florida DMV web site, it will have all you need to know.
