Serpentine belt

Asked by Korbins_mama14 Jan 03, 2017 at 06:39 PM about the 1998 Ford Escort 2 Dr ZX2 Cool Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there supposed to be a cover or
something to protect the serpentine belt? If I
hit a puddle of water it blows my belt off
instantly.

Probably, you think?? Who puts up with nonsense like this? You're serious? The belt came off with a puddle of water? Really? How long have you owned this car? Take it to a mechanic and see what you need or don't drive this POS.

I suspect your belt is loose due to a faulty tensioner or maybe it is just out of adjustment. Most covers I have seen are on the top of the engine to keep your hands out of the belt. Off road cars will usually have skid plate or splash guard underneath.

Yes like F.o.R. says, more than likely you need a new belt tensioner, and probably new idler pulleys. If the belt is older replace that also.

I have the same problem with my ses.. and so does my friend.. my husband has replaced everything and it still does it..I was told Ford has a serp.pully that has a lip on it that keeps belt from coming off.. checking into it tomorrow
