idler pulley

Asked by marblehead May 14, 2011 at 11:39 PM about the 1998 Ford Escort 2 Dr ZX2 Cool Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2.0 zetec dohc, idler pulley has a black plastic outer housing w/bearing inside the plastic flat roller housing. This engine has an idler pulley under one cam and an belt tensioner under the other cam then the belt closely running to the crank shaft. Once or if I do get the pulley, where are the marks on the cams 'cause I could'nt find one. 2nd question, while chkg engine out, it was turning over like regular as in no loss of compression, but still what are the chances that I did bent valves? thank you

did you break a serpetine belt, what is wrongwith the idler and idler wheel, why you think you got bent valves.need more info on the problem. just replaceing a idler has no affect on timeing.

the ztec is a non-interference engine. No chance valves are bent from timing being out
