first thing I would do is get another mechanic , pull the oil fill cap and look on the bottom tell us what you see ,also what does the exhaust look like ?

Sounds like you bought a sick horse- is it foaming around the mouth? Is it laying down a lot? OK- I guess this isn't funny- but this is why you should ALWAYS have a used car checked out by a veterinarian- I mean a mechanic- before purchase- good luck

Oh I told my husband that when we get a car for our son that he needs to test drive it right to a shop and have it put on a scope to check the engine . The car isn't here so can't check and give you any answers right now. Thank you though for responding . If there's anything else I should check when I go to the car please let me know

It could be a bad head gasket- just guessing- it should have a compression test- done by a mechanic- what should have happened first- those cars can be very expensive after 100,000 miles- I hope you have good luck with it-

Also when overheating, you have to burp the system. If any air is in the line it will continue to register high temperature. Also, make sure that you have the cap that sits atop the thermostat housing changed. They wear out after time and let air into the system.
