DIFFERENTIAL SERVICE/TRANSFERCASE SERVICE

Asked by JWT13 Jan 17, 2011 at 09:57 PM about the 2005 Lincoln Navigator Luxury 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had my oil changed and it was recommended I change the fluid in my front and rear differential and transfercase.  They wanted $170.00  and it seemed kind of fishy to me.  \The guy showed me my fluid colour and the plug with a thick grease and showed me what the colour fluid should look like.  Then found out they did the exact same routine with my secretary...is this really needed?

it is necessary maintenance, but the $170 price sounds like some outrageous jiffy lube bs. Take it to a regular mechanic.

it is definitely needed. you dont want to replace them. and 170 seems about right if its synthetic for 2 differentials.

JWT13: Engine oil is recommended to change according to the vehicle run, it reduces the friction in the engine and keeps it cool, $170 is little high for a engine oil just talk to some local dealers or car accessories shop.....

It's gear oil not engine oil. Read the topic and understand it before posting.
