Toyota Camry Front Camera Shading

Asked by GuruTF6CH Jul 20, 2018 at 05:00 PM about the 2018 Toyota Camry XLE V6

Question type: General

My Toyota Camry's front camera view appears when I come to a stop in traffic.
Why is there a shaded area blocking much of the front camera's view?

Nope. It’s supposed to look like that... even in the manual’s picture that way with no explanation as to why. I asked the dealer - They don’t know why Toyota does it either. I hoped someone would - I googled and googled and found this site. Guess we’ll never know.

Its a tinited area so the camera is not blinded by the sun. If it weren't for that you'd have a halo of the sun brightness and not be able to see anything at all from that fron view.

GUESS. To discourage drivers from only using the distorted view from the fisheye lens on the front facing camera alone for moving forward.
