Thanks, strange, ran perfectly before changing timing belt 2 days ago, now has low compression on number 4. What happened?

Thank you very much. Wow, didn't think one tooth would cause that, but it is difficult to align straight up to mark on the two cam outside gears, and also on the Crankshaft V spot. Any suggestions how? And, which way should I go if off only one tooth. I guess closest to the mark, right.

Thank you very much, tennisshoes, appreciate it. Mechanic is coming this p.m. or tomorrow morning to check timing again. Strange, it runs great, just doesn't idle really good in the morning, but has a lot of power up a hill near my house. Mike

Good morning, tennisshoes. Got a question again. I am a bit confused since the two guys working on my 2002 Kia Rio did a compression check and number 4 was low, how can timing cause that problem as you previously mentioned. I am thinking that if the valves seal and the rings seal there should not be a compression problem on number 4. Right? Thanks for your help. Mike

Thanks again. Appreciate it. They put oil in number 4 to check if rings or valves and the compression gauge rose from 70 to 120, what the other cylinders were reading. So, they said it was a problem with the rings on number 4. All this is strange, though, car was running good before I decided time to change the timing belt. Now, does not want to idle good in morning until motor is warm and then idles o.k. Valve or rings, I don't know.

Thank you again for your information. In Panama, they don't have shops that do those things, I don't think so anyway, maybe have them but I am not aware of them. I will ask the two mechanics but it seems strange it idles poor when cold and then idles good when warm. Confused in Panama. Mike

Hi, Tennisshoes. Is there any way to check my 2002 kia rio timing with specifically a timing light? Thanks. Runs good on Texaco, but when starts in morning idles rough until warm.

It has been a few months, Tennishoes. Those two mechanics removed the head from my 2002 Kia Rio and found two valves, intake and exhaust, bent on number 4 cylinder..........please read above original problem of overheating and idling bad at startup in the morning. Anyway, now it started great but runs like it is retarded, and when I went to Panama City to take my wife to a hospital for a test, the car started heating up and water boiled out of the white plastic reservoir. Frustrated in Panama, please help. Mike dmike3345@gmail.com also if you want to write me an e-mail. Thanks

Look at this kia forum input......... Eureka!! Found the problem with my 2002 kia sedona 3.5 , no power, idles great. no codes. (Timingbelt had jumped ONE TOOTH)_ caused this headache. Cams were still aligned but the crank was retarded one tooth. Not sure why the computer didn,t pick this up as chryslers do. All is well. any DIY'ers Make sure you apply 50lbs torque to the timing belt before With your pulley, then you release the tensioner. Failure to do this will kill your engine as the belt will fail and valves will impact on the pistons.
