On a Kia Rio, is the water pump a part of the engine?

Asked by Jen18_tweety Dec 13, 2014 at 01:29 PM about the 2003 Kia Rio Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was wondering if the water pump is a part of the engine on a 2003 Kia Rio?  My mechanic doesn't think so at all, but I have been told that it is.

The water pump is ALWAYS part of any engine. It's what circulates the anti- freeze though the engine and radiator. Its a bolt on part, either outside the engine run by a belt(usually serpentine) or it's behind the timing belt cover and run by the timing belt.

You apparently use the term "Mechanic" quite loosely. If you have other options for mechanics, maybe you should consider them.
