Overheating can be caused by several issues. Low on coolant, leaks (internal or external), clogged radiator, bad thermostat, cooling fans not running, etc.

over heating in a short distance sounds like bad head gasket , is there white goop under the oil fill cap ? Is the exhaust white ? Is it using coolant ?
