Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1978 C10 Has the original 250 Straight 6,It's
been smelling like its running Rich for the last
week or so,Just wondering what could be the
cause of that and how to fix it,And Sometime when
I shut the key off it acts like it wants to keep
running and if I turn the key back on while it's doing
that it will crank right up?I had one person tell me
to check my timing

That chugging is called "dieseling", another symptom of running rich. Listen to the person suggesting to check the timing! Check timing, idle mixture, vacuum leaks.

Check the timing, spark plugs or the distributor for frayed wires. I had the same problem with mine

Does it loose its prime every nite or after a couple hours. You have to crank on it to get fuel to it. First start of day? A simple gasket kit in the carb and tune up on ignition system. Should solve your deiseling problem.
