my 69 c10 292 not starting. carb is backfiring. when i put tdc on #1 cyl rotor doesnt point at #1 on distributor. points at #6 whats wrong and what do i do to fix

When you check to see if the distributor is in the right place, you need to bring #1 piston up to TDC ON the compression stroke. Otherwise you could be 180° out.
