2005 Kia Spectra Speedometer/Odometer/cruise control stops working when the car warms up
My 2005 Kia Spectra
stops working, at about 7 miles of drive
time, when the car warms up. If I let the
car sit a long time after driving it and it
cools off a lot, the system will work again
for about 7 miles until it warms up and
stops again. Oddly, last week I drove a
very long distance on the freeway,
beginning early in the morning, and the
whole system, including cruise control, worked for many many miles.
Unfortunately, I did not track the miles,
but it was very cold outside.
Other things going on with the car which
may or may not be affecting it:
1) The illuminated light around the heater
control knob constantly flashes on and
2) The factory alarm system
intermittentaly stops working.
Sometimes, when I lock the doors with
the key fob/controller, the 'beep beep'
from the alarm doesn't sound off. (There
is an aftermarket SCYTEK Shock
Controller that works in conjunction with
the factory alarm.)
3) The passenger door, driver side,
stopped opening and then was fine about
2 months later. I even had AAA come out
and try to open the door, but they couldn't.
Then one day my son just pulled the
handle and it opened as if there was never
a problem. It hasn't been a problem
since...that happened about a year ago..
On your odometer and cruse control, there is a Input Shaft Speed Sensor, or a Output Shaft Speed Sensor, depending on if it is a automatic or manual trany, that probably are bad on the transmission. Each part is an external part and around $40 so wouldn't be too much to repair.
