Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The clock both date and time just quit working over night. It was reset wrong so

I’m having the same problem. No clock displaying and when I got in my car this morning the clock, date, year was all wrong. I was able to change it but then when I restarted my car nothing displays and the function to fix the clock date and time are greyed out.

I have the exact same problem on my 2017 Sorento. No date and no time display and will not allow manual setup date/time input. When I attach my iPhone it does show the correct time through CarPlay because it’s reading my phone. When I disconnect my phone there is no date/time display.

Ha! I got in my 2018 Niro around 8 PM last night (8/16) and it said it was Feb 6 and 3 AM. When I got home I turned off the GPS clock synch and manually set the clock to the proper date and time (Discovered the car thought the year was 2036). Today the clock is blank. I can't access manual clock/day settings. but I can toggle the GPS clock setting off/on but nothing happens when I turn the GPS synch off or on. I guess I'll find out more on Monday unless the satellite gets fixed before then.

I am experiencing the exact same problem on my 2015 Kia Soul. All the clock options are greeted out and the display is not showing the time or date. My display said Feb. 6th 7:20am, then later last night it no longer displayed the time or date. It has to be a satellite issue if we are all experiencing the same thing.

Same here, 2017 Kia Niro clock reset to Feb 6 2036. We set it to today, August 17th. When we got back in it was --:-- and it cannot be set. I am going to trust for now it is a satellite or software issue since it is happening to so many of us in the last 24 hrs.

Yup same problem with my 2017 Kia Sportage. Had that exact same wrong date displayed last night around 8 pm and today blank. So clearly a satellite issue or whatever across all Kia’s

I am having the same problem and ironically it had the same Feb. date. I went into Kia helpline and they want a $5. Deposit on a credit card and then $23. After Iget my answer. Sounds like a scam to me.

Thank you, all! Nice to know it’s not jut my car — a 2018 Niro Hybrid. At about the same time the clock stopped (~2:30), there was a jump in gas consumption, from 4.4 to 5.8 l/100km. Anyone experience that? Thanks

I have a 2018 Kia Niro and our clock went out this morning. As other people stated, the time was way off yesterday afternoon, so we reset it. This morning, nada, nothing. It doesn't work at all. Going into settings everything is grayed out except the gps, but you can't even click on the gps because nothing happens. I hope Kia fixes this really soon.

Same here. Started yesterday with the clock saying it was 6:05 a.m. at 5:30 p.m. I went into the settings and the clock thought it was June of 2036. Set everything manually, which worked for a bit, now today back to no clock and no way to set it manually.

I tried hitting the reset button. It didn’t solve the date/time problem. I read on another forum that this issue was previously solved by removing the media fuse from the fuse box for awhile and then reinstalling it. Seemed to correct the clock issue. Not sure if this would work in this case.

I have the same issue with a 2017 Kia Niro Touring, manually reset for a few hours then only seeing dashes on the home screen. No functionality on the Clock Setup screen. I've noticed on some of the other forums they are saying to remove the Media Fuse and re-seat the SD Card for Media. Will try this in the morning and pray...

Exact same problem with 2016 Kia Soul. Yesterday the clock was about 20 minutes slow and the date was Feb something 2036. I was able to reset it yesterday but today I got nothing and the set up for clock and date isn’t functioning.

Everyone out there should of bought a toyota, clock works just fine. Here is what happen, no need to panic just relax the team that tell time for kia (the little guys inside your radio) are all on vacation for the following 2 week, they will be back next month and time will be restored.

Same Issue on a 2015 Kia Optimum Hybrid. We have 2 other family members with the same issue on a 2015 Kia Sorento and a 2018 Kia Cadenza. Supposedly my friend with a 2019 kia optimum is working correctly.

Mine too must be a satellite issue my wife said even her map looks different

1,760

Guru 14SM9 may be on to something. Most of us probably have our clocks set to run off of the GPS as opposed to being manually set. Removing the "media fuse", which I suspect controls the electrical connection to the radio/media display, may cause that unit to reset to factory defaults when the system reboots. IF the default setting is manual clock settings, you might be able to set your clock manually. But if the default clock setting is GPS synch for the clock we're probably stuck until the satellite gets fixed. I suspect that the ability to switch off the GPS satellite synch setting and go to manual clock setting requires permission to do so from the satellite. You know, the satellite that has the malfunction. That could explain why we can't access the manual clock settings. UPDATE: I just pulled the MultiMedia fuse for 30 seconds and re-inserted. I still cannot access the manual clock settings which leads me to believe that synching the GPS to the clock is a default setting value.

30

Same issue, but it started working on its own with full access to clock controls about 7PM eastern daylight time on Aug 17th. It was my fourth stop/start since the problem began - coincidence probably. On the last start I was parked in a location that had blocked my satellite radio signals - another coincidence. Just checked at 10:30AM Aug 18th and the clock is fine.

As the clock is set to use GPS time, it is very likely a satellite issue as mentioned above. I was about to re-run the software update or disconnect the battery. I am glad that I found it out to be a common issue in Kia here.

510

Thanks David and Jim for trying to remove and reinstall the media fuse to see if that would fix the problem. Oh well. I’m in California and checked my 2017 Sorento at 9:30am (I looked at my watch!) Still no date/time display. So I guess we’ll have to wait for the satellite repairman.

So glad to see all these comments! I noticed yesterday that the time and date were gone from my 2015 Kia Optima. After reading the owners manuals from front to back, all I could think of was "Oh, no! 'Guess I will call the dealership tomorrow." I hope Kia will resolve this in a day or so...... I love my car!!

Exact same problem on my 2016 Sorento SX. Yesterday on way to store at 4:30 pm, the clock showed 4:07 am and the date was Feb 7. Started the car after leaving the store and no time or date. Clock setting controls were all grayed out. Very glad to see how wide spread this seems to be. Was gonna take to dealer tomorrow, but may wait a day or two. Thanks to all who have posted.

Tried the system update on my 2017 Sorento and got the same error message. Question for those who disconnected and reconnected the battery and successfully got the date/time to reappear: did it keep all your presets (radio stations, POI addresses, seat position memory, etc.)?

Same for me too on the 2017 Kia Niro. Started two days ago, can't get anyone in my kia dealership. I really want my clock back! WTF?

1 people found this helpful.

Same problem here on 2016 Sedona. I'll wait a few days see what happens

60

I tried the update as suggested here. Wouldn't work, kept telling me to check the storage. So I popped the SD card out, the screen changed (no navigation available), waited about 10 seconds and reinserted the SD card. The system restarted and it working correctly now. Hoping it stays that way the next time I start the car!

I pushed and held down the reset button and the date and time came back on in my Kia Soul 2014. The tiny reset hole is located above the screen on the top right. Be sure to hold it in for 20 seconds or so. The first time I did it, I didn't hold it in and it didn't fix the problem.

Same problem, started around 8/15 or 8/16, no manual settings, and date/time with GPS not working 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid

20

Mine started working after I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes. To be fair it wasn't immediately, I reconnected the battery...it wasn't working...then I walked away for like 5 minutes and came back, it was working.

Just tried the reset button on my 2018 Niro, push the button in for second or two. Screen goes black, then resets. Clock now working, correct date and time. Synched to GPS, but manual clock settings are now available. On the Niro the reset button is located next to the radio/media on/off button. See photo, reset button is circled. A ball-point pen gets the job done

SOLVED! ...The GPS time/date not working problem - 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid I tried resetting the nav/entertainment system (small push button above the SD card window/slot to the right of the screen) - This *did not work*. What DID work was removing the cover over the 12v vehicle battery (NOT THE HYBRID BATTERY) (to the right side of the trunk - on the side) - disconnecting the hot lead (10mm socket) - letting the car sit unpowered for about 2 minutes, then reconnecting the battery. Viola! The time/date works again!

Same here. Started last night (Saturday) with Feb date and right time. Today nothing and everything grayed out for the settings. After all the complaints - it'll probably be fixed before morning rush hour.

510

I finally got the date/time to work on my 2017 Sorento! We’re such slaves to technology and I was crazed to fix this stupid little thing. I tried a little bit of everything short of detaching the battery cable. I pushed the reset button for 20-30 seconds. Nothing. I took out the SD card and put it back in. Nothing. I pressed the system update button repeatedly even the though it kept giving me the check storage error message. After about a dozen or so update system presses, the date and time finally appeared! I don’t know if it was everything I did or if the satellite is finally fixed, but it works! Now I can get back to a “normal” life. Whew!

My 2017 Optima SXL Turbo is all greed out. Tried numerous times taking out SD card re-stating the car and even driving. Nothing.....I even kept selecting the upgrade but still didn’t work! UGH

Had the same issue on our 2018 Niro. The SD card removal method did not work. Tried the reset for “10” seconds and now it works.

Having the same issues, 2017 sorento sxl, thanks for posting and sharing resolutions

So I fixed it relatively simply: Enter car, pull the cover off the SD card, pop the SD card out Turn on car, push the SD card in, wait for system reset Working

What worked for me was resetting UVO system. Good luck finding real instructi on and as go how. I have 2018 Sorento, on the upper right of radio panel was a small hole that looks like a light could be in it. With car on, press in hope w pen tip or paperclip. Statements will turn off, reset, & come back on. Removing memory card did nothing. Reset absolutely worked 4 me. Guess I'll know tomorrow morning if theres a bigger issue. Good luck!

30

Your not alone Kia drivers!!! All Hynudais with Nav also experienced the same issue. Pop out your SD card while car is running, insert it back in after about 30 seconds. It might take a couple of tries... and make sure you are not in your garage, but with good GPS coverage . Good luck!

Reset button (Kia 2017 Optima Hybrid) did not work for me (20+ seconds), but disconnecting the 12v battery (positive terminal - 10mm socket) for about 2 minutes worked and solved the problem.

10

On Facebook it’s showing that when you go to the GPS info the clock has reset to 1969. Some weird software bug. Very Y2K-ish. Looks like for others the “pull out your sd card” method is working

60

Reinserting SD card didn't seem to help, but hitting re-set did after 2nd try. Thanks to all for the pooled wisdom!

I removed my SDcard (while it was on) and it complained,re-inserted it and it restarted. Still no time. So I pushed the little "penpoint" reset button. Rebooted. No time UNTIL I went into the "time" settings, then it instantly appeared (no changes made).

Yep, looks like ALL the Kia cars. I have two 2018 Kia's, when my wife came home from work Saturday night she said something was wrong with her car (2018 Niro) and told me the clock quit working and map looked different. Worked on it a half hour and got nowhere. I told her I would take her card to the dealer on Monday morning. Got in my car (2018 Sorrento) to go to Church Sunday morning and mine had the same problem so I figured it had to be a bigger problem than just one broken clock. SOLVED!: With the vehicle running, set the radio to a regular FM Station, make sure it’s not on XM, remove the SD CARD, wait 30 seconds, reinstall SD card and DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING! Let it boot up normally until you see the “Drive Safely” confirmation screen. Hit “confirm” and your clock should be back. Then immediately go into clock settings and turn off the “GPS Time” setting, because the satellite it’s currently reading from has a time of 12/31/1969. The only reason you would need to synchronize with GPS Time is if you’re driving across different time zones.

Mine started working this morning! Took out the SD card for 10 minutes, put it back in (all while the car was running). Turned car off for about 5 minutes. When I restarted car, date and time came back on in about a minute. Didn't realize how much I missed the clock lol.

From kia. Disconnect battery terminals and touch together for ten minutes. Problem caused by Sirius.

Pulled out SD card for 30 seconds, then pushed in, system reloaded and about 30 seconds later date and time were back. This was with the car on as I was driving.

2016 optima. The SD card trick worked for me! Removed for ~15 seconds and then inserted it. It took about 30 seconds for it to reboot, but it’s all working again!

10

I tried the card out for 30 seconds in both of my cars and nothing, no change. I don't know about removing battery terminals and touching them together for 10 minutes, wouldn't that affect every electronic component in the car? I will go out and try the SD card thing again!

I noticed that the clock in my 2015 Kia Soul! was not showing up on the gps screen a few days ago. I tried the reset button but it didn’t work. Today, I once again tried the reset button and then I tried the clock button, as before the only thing that was highlighted was TIME and VIEW. Went back into the gps mode and then I tried the clock button, this time I kept hitting the Time button and guess what...the options on the right became highlighted and clock was working again! Maybe the evil look I was giving the clock screen helped, I just happy it’s working!

There is an issue with the military satellite used for gathering gps time and date. This problem is affecting multiple car brands that use it. Not ALL vehicles are affected and there is nothing you need to do, once problem is resolved with satellite the data will download and resume normal functions...

UPDATE: The FIX will be a satellite fix in the near future....the Instant fix is to (Start vehicle first) get a paper clip and locate the little reset button on the upper right side of the radio apparatus ....keep the clip pushed in for 5 seconds or so... the screen will go blank for a small amount of time...it will reappear, and the date and time may still be blank...BUT WAIT .....let it cycle thru....the date and time will reappear....to ensure, turn the engine off, restart the car and you should see it all fixed...but a satellite fix will be forthcoming so the dealer said....Hope this Helps Kerry G.

It's weird because my 2019 Cadenza digital clock shows blanks, however my analog which is synced to the digital one is working fine

Same problem with 2018 Kia Sorento. How do i find the SD card location on it? Can't find information in the manual.

Same issue with my 2016 Kia Optima Hybrid. When you use GPS the time is 4 hours later.

I'm sure this answer is on here but... I have a 16 sorento. Started with updating system. Nothing. Then next time I turned car on, took SD chip out for 15 secs, put back in. Nothing happened but i drove a few mins to get to gas station, turned it off then back on and the date and time was back. Hope this helps

Per chisoxfan708’s suggestion, can confirm that removing and then re-inserting SD card worked for me! Try that out if you are having this issue..

I took out my Sd card from my 2016 Optima ex didn’t fix the problem. Held the reset button for 10 seconds, seemed to do the trick

Can someone give me a hint to where I can find the SD card on my 2018 Kia sorento?

Kasparr, I have a 2017 Sorento (very similar to yours) and the SD card is located in the upper right of the center console. It’s labeled “SD Map.” Pry off the cover to get to the SD card.

I don't know if yours looks like mine, but my sd card is here where I circled in yellow.

So after three days of removing the SD card numerous times and failing to get the clock display back, it finally worked today. Today I took the card out, while my car was running, for 30 secs then placed the card back and let it reboot. After the reboot, shut off my car for 5 mins. When I turned it back on, still no clock display. So while the car was running removed the sd card again for 30 secs. This time I pressed the reset button before reinserting the SD card. After the reset reboot was complete I placed the SD card back in. After that reboot, my clock display was back. Before doing this, I called my dealership's service department whom advised me that we just had to 'wait it out' but I was too determined to live with that answer. So happy that it worked this time around. Good luck to everyone else out there with the same issue. Hope your able to

2016 Kia Optima nothing will display on the top of my screen like usual nor will it give me any option for the clock

Turned off car, took SD card out, switched car on, sat nav obviously doesn't work. Turn car off again. Put SD card back in and switched back on. After re-initializing the clock is back. 2016 Kia Soul EV - UK.

This suggestion was posted by April and it worked for me! Based on some of the other posts, Sirius XM Satellite radio is causing interference. THANK YOU, APRIL!!!! Just got back from Kia dealer. The problem is in fact the GPS satellite. Kia recently updated their software, and there was a glitch that impacted the date/time. No action is required. Kia is working on a software patch that should be done by around August 27. Once they upload the software to their satellite, all the Kia clock malfunctions should auto-correct, but ONLY if you have the clock settings configured for "GPS - ON".

2015 Kia Optima SXL I set the radio to FM station removed SD Card with vehicle running. I turned off the vehicle waited 30 seconds and restarted it. Waited another 30 seconds or so and installed the sd card. I let the system completely boot up. Hit Confirm and clock came back on.....

I had same problem lost date /time on 2016 Sorento for one week, disconnected (+) battery cable for 10 minutes all was restored and updated

10

Look for a small pin hole where a paper clip can fit into and reset. If you have a SD card remove it for 30 seconds. Make sure radio is set to FM. Might have to turn the car off with SD card removed and restart waiting 30 seconds before you reinsert it....,,

Had the same problem with 2016 Optima SXL. While sitting outside in parking lot (with access to satellite signals), and with the car in Aux mode listening to an AM radio station, I popped out the SD card, waited 60 seconds and then put it back in. Took a couple minutes for everything to reboot, but then the clock finally came back on to correct date and time.

10

I have a 2018 Kia Niro same thing happened to me. While the car is on I pull out the 15amp media fuse, waited 5secs and pop it back in. The clock display came back. Thank you whoever suggested it!

Instead of y’all saying “same problem here” why don’t y’all wait to find a solution? Posting here saying that y’all are having the same issue won’t get anywhere and will only cluster up this thread. If a solution is found and it gets posted here, it will get mixed up in between all of the “same here” posts and none of us will be able to resolve our issue.

Solution is much simpler than that. UVO System needs reboot, just like any computer. Search ur radio panel for a small hole an ink pen tip will fit through, press it then system will shut off & back on. Car doesn't need 2 run per se, but battery must b on. If radio plays, ur set 2 reset. Good luck

I spoke to Kia. It's due to some government regulations about satellite/GPS being reset every 20yrs & this is the first time it's happened for these new cars with GPS. So, pull your SD card out of your navigation system, wait for the error, hold in the little reset button next to where the card is (I did it for 10sec). Then after it reboots, put the card back in, wait for it to reboot again & then it should work again. It worked for me, they said if it doesn't work for you then call them

Somewhere in this forum a guy said to hit the reset button. By the power/volume button, there is a tiny pinhole on the lower right side. He indicated to get a ballpoint pen and push it in enough to reset the system. When it resets, the screen will reboot like a computer. I did this and the date and time works!

2016 Sorento. Car going. SD card out...SD card back in.......couple of minutes.......sorted.

Glad the reset button and sd card trick worked for some of you. Not for me and my 2016 soul unfortunately. I tried several times over last couple of days and tuned the radio to fm as well.

I got an official email response from Kia on this issue. Here is the email: Hello, I received your web note about the issues you’re experiencing with the date/time. Here is an email with instructions on how to solve the issue. If you follow all of these steps and the problem still persists please give us a call at 1-800-333-4542. Method #3 has been the most successful so far in my experience. Thanks! cid:image002.png@01D44F24.EAE61070 Eric Volkman Kia Motors America, Inc. 111 Peters Canyon Rd. This issue was caused by the International GPS Week Number Count being reset which happens once every 20 years, making it the Y2K equivalent for GPS. This is owned by the government and applies to all devices that communicate with GPS. Our older AVN 4.0 head units were affected by this but the newer head units do not seem to be affected. Please let me know if you see any other head units (Alert your TL or Robert and Ali) If you have customers that will work with you to fix the issue in their own cars, there are a couple different methods that vary in success, but we have not been able to fix everything. Method 1: 1. Vehicle is parked and engine is turned ON 2. Confirm all Cables (USB, AUX, 12V Charge) are disconnected from the Audio System and CDs are ejected 3. Press the reset button on the head unit with a pen or paperclip. (see Specific Model Year Navigation User Manual on Location of Pinhole) Method 2: 1. Vehicle must be outside and receiving a good GPS signal. 2. With vehicle running and unit fully booted remove the SD card (see Specific Model Year Navigation User Manual on Location of SD Card) 3. Allow the error message SD Card Removed "Or Like Message" to appear 4. Press the Soft reset button located on the outside of the unit (may be hidden inside the SD card slot area) 5. Allow unit to fully reboot 6. Reinstall the SD card and allow system to restart. 7. Once restarted and GPS location acquisition has been achieved the date and time should display. Method 3: 1. Go to Clock settings and turn off GPS time. 2. Perform the SD card removal and reset procedure again (Method 2). 3. Verify if the clock returned. 4. I have a 2017 Soul. I tried the system update...didn't work. "Retry" button didn't work either. I tried that a few times over the past few days. Tried the reset button...didn't work. That was yesterday morning. Took out the SD card last night. Didn't work at first, but this morning all is normal. Not sure what fixed it, but glad it's fixed though!

10

What a relief. I thought it had something to do with the aftermarket flux capacitor I installed! Guess I will have to postpone that trip to 2032 until it gets fixed.

I had same issue in 2015 Kia Soul. Saw this thread and removed the SD card, no reset button pushed or anything else, while the car was on. I put it back in a few seconds later, and the system restarted & now shows the clock at the right time.

2015 Optima. Same problem no time and date.. I have tried the in/out sim card and reset button thats circled and still nothing. Any other tips? :(

1 people found this helpful.

I went to the coordinates button found in the all menus section if you have a 2017 car or newer.

Once inside the gps coordinates let the system download your gps coordinates. With that it will also download the date and time.

I was able to re-set by pushing in the re-set bottom with a paper clip. I held it for 5 seconds then released. The UVo restarted and my date and time came back and the setup bottoms for the clock were enabled. I have not had any problem since.

30

I have a 2018 Kia Niro With the time not displaying for the last week or two. Not able to set the time (GPS time is the only thing enabled) I did the reset described with no luck. I finally called the Kia dealer. They said it's a Sirius Radio upgrade that messed up the date and time. They are emailing me instruction on how to fix it. It's not Kia.

Same 2019 Kia optima...just stopped working clock options in setting are greyed out. Why Kia God's have you forsaken us.

40

Does anyone know if that software fix is still coming? I’ve tried various fixes suggested on the thread and had no success. My closet Kia dealership is an hour away.

I have the same issue it started a couple months ago. Took it to the KIA dealership and they are saying I have to replace my radio. Sound like this is a GPS transmission issue for KIA
